In New York, a document that needs notarization usually must contain the correct certificate for that specific act, not every possible notarial certificate. For example, an affidavit usually needs affidavit body language plus a jurat, while a power of attorney, deed, or many signed agency forms often use an acknowledgment. If your document arrives with no notarial wording at all, we can identify that the certificate is missing, but we do not choose the act for you unless your attorney, title company, court, or receiving agency already told you what is required.

Acknowledgment wording commonly seen in New York
Acknowledgments are often used for deeds, powers of attorney, many contracts, and agency documents where the signer acknowledges the signature to the notary.

Common documents that use these forms
- Affidavit: usually affidavit language plus a jurat

What we do not notarize
- A regular photo ID by itself. Your ID is used to identify you, it is not usually the document being notarized.
- A random letter with no certificate wording. If there is no affidavit language, jurat, acknowledgment, or other proper certificate, we cannot invent one for you.
- Incomplete documents. Blank spaces, missing pages, or obvious alterations may cause refusal.
- Documents requiring legal advice. We cannot choose your notarial act or draft your form.
- Weird sovereign citizen nonsense. If the wording sounds like magical jurisdiction fan fiction instead of actual New York legal standards, a stamp is not going to rescue it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Signing too early when a jurat or oath is required
- Bringing only a photo ID and thinking the ID itself gets notarized
